#Article19ForAll is a social media action organized by Deutsche Welle to recognize the 70th anniversary of the UN Declaration of Human Rights which defined free expression and free media as basic human rights.

The goal of the #Article19ForAll project is to bring attention to the idea that the rights outlined in Article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR) which declare that freedom of opinion, free expression and the free access to information are basic human rights.

The declaration was adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1948 and was formulated as a reaction to the Second World War. The international community vowed to never allow atrocities witnessed during that war to happen again.

Diplomat and former First lady Eleanor Roosevelt chaired the UNDHR drafting committee which included representatives from around the world. The resulting charta was meant to serve as a road map to guarantee the rights of every individual everywhere.

As a media organization, DW works to provide accurate and objective news and information to audiences all over the world in 30 languages. In the run-up to December 10, DW will be featuring short video clips and texts submitted by people from all over the world. Some of them have made sacrifices in the name of these rights and others have dedicated their lives to protect them.

Get involved!

If you choose to partake in the action, you will be joining journalists, artists, activists, politicians and everyday people who share in the belief that the right to speak up and to be heard must be promoted and protected.

We would like to encourage everyone to submit videos and/or text statements in support of #Article19ForAll.

"Article 19, which guarantees freedom of expression worldwide, is very important for us," said DW Editor-in-Chief Ines Pohl. "We would like you to join our social media project and share your ideas, your feelings about the importance of freedom of speech."

Videos should be no longer than one minute and be sent to DW by no later than December 5. They can be sent via email to article19@dw.com, via WhatsApp/Signal/Telegram to +49.1525.301.6435 or through any other means that works best for you. We only ask that the video and audio quality remains as high as possible. All formats and aspect ratios will be accepted.

We appreciate your dedication to these important issues.
