May 23, 2024

Starting a new life abroad can be daunting — especially for women. Girl Gone International, which was founded in 2010, offers support to expat women and has about 1 million members worldwide.

Back in 2010, Anne Scott, a globetrotter who had just moved from Scotland to Germany, was feeling lonely and isolated. She began searching for other female expats to connect with. From one meet-up to the next, the idea gained momentum. Two years later, the Girl Gone International (GGI) community was born.

Today, GGI has over 1 million members worldwide. It offers a safe space for women and non-binary people who live abroad. DW attended one of the community's events in Valencia, Spain, and met some of its members.
