Aubameyang and Lewandowski off to flyers in day of no shocks

August 12, 2017

Saturday's first round action saw every top flight side safely through. There were equally few surprises on the scoresheets, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang grabbing a hat-trick and Robert Lewandowski a brace.

Rielasingen 0 - 4 Borussia Dortmund
(Bartra 12', Aubameyang 41', 55', 80')

Aubameyang, who was widely expected to leave Dortmund this summer, was once again the star as BVB enjoyed a comfortable warm-up for their Bundesliga opener at Wolfsburg next weekend.

Any hopes the hosts had of a shock were extinguished early when Dortmund youngster Jan-Niklas Beste broke down the right and drilled back across goal for Marc Bartra to tap home.

It didn't take long for the cup holders to double their lead, Aubameyang tucking away a penalty after new signing Max Philipp was brought down in the box.

Last year's Bundesliga top scorer doubled his tally for the new season with a delightful chip after he was sent clear by Mahmoud Dahoud, and the Gabon striker completed his treble by outmuscling the home defence and sliding home from inside the six yard box.

Chemnitzer 0 – 5 Bayern Munich
(Lewandowski 20', 60', Ribery 51', 79', Hummels 89')

Lewandowski took a little longer to open his tally for this new campaign. The Polish frontman curled a free kick over the wall to give Bayern an early lead that they never looked in any danger of relinquishing. Even a desperate attempt at a handball on the line couldn't keep the strike out.

Another of Bayern's long-established attacking core made the Bundesliga champions' task even more comfortable early in the second period, Franck Ribery arrowing a shot in to the far corner after being supplied by Kingsley Coman.

By this stage Bayern were cruising and their third looked like a training exercise, Lewandowski tapping home after the Bavarians passed their way across the pitch. Ribery added another to his tally with a free kick of his own before Mats Hummels nodded in the fifth to keep their quest for a 19th German Cup on course.
