BASF Posts Big Profit Gain

Europe's largest chemical manufacturer, BASF, announced a dramatic 44.4 percent increase in profits for the third-quarter on Thursday. Without counting special items, the company said it earned a profit of 455 million euros ($456.5 million) for the quarter. Revenues, meanwhile, jumped 5.3 percent to 7.581 billion euro. The company cited increased sales of chemicals and plastics for the windfall.
