A goal in 78th minute by superstar midfielder Franck Ribery was all Bayern Munich needed to beat Hamburg on Sunday, and now the giants of German soccer are once again at the top of the Bundesliga standings.

"This is better, to be in the lead again," said Bayern trainer Louis van Gaal, adding, however, that "what's really important is to be at the top at the end of the season."

"But this result is really important for us. We applied the pressure and earned the victory," the Dutchman said.

Bayern Munich are now two points ahead of Leverkusen, who only managed a 0-0 draw against struggling Cologne on Saturday.

Lower Saxony matchup

In Sunday's other match, Wolfsburg took down Hanover 1:0 with a goal from Zyjezdan Misimovic.

After losing nine Bundesliga games in succession, Hanover - at 17th in the standings - is now in danger of relegation.
