Badstuber out for four months with thigh tear
April 23, 2015After a special Champions League night on Tuesday, Bayern Munich has been dealt some bad news. The club revealed on Twitter on Thursday afternoon that defender Holger Badstuber has suffered a muscle tear in his thigh and requires an operation. This spells the end of the season for the left-footed central defender, and a three to four month break is expected.
"Of course I am very disappointed right now, but I am positive and will return in top fitness," said Badstuber on the club's website after the news was released. "I know Bayern will do everything for me so I can return to be an integral part of the team," added the defender, who will head to Vail, Colorado in the USA in the coming days to undergo surgery.
Badstuber missed nearly two years for Bayern when he suffered two ligament tears in his right knee. After making his comeback at the start of the season, Badstuber suffered a muscle tendon tear in his thigh on matchday three and was once again out for months.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said to German newspaper "Bild": "We are so sorry for Holger. He has worked through so many comebacks and now this! We know Holger as a fighter. We know he won't be fazed by this new injury. He knows he is important for us."
Bayern are already without David Alaba, Franck Ribery, Medhi Benatia, Arjen Robben, although the latter might make an appearance this weekend when Bayern host Hertha.
