In the wake of developments in Ukraine, Latvia’s military is undergoing a shake-up too. Latvia was part of the Soviet Union, and has been a member of the EU and NATO since 2004. The country’s Defence Minister has just announced reforms in the recruitment of soldiers, as part of plans to increase the size of the army. But there are doubts whether those changes will be sustainable.
