Bundesliga Round 5 in Pictures
New stars lead Dortmund over Hamburg
Dortmund can be very satisfied with their summer transfers. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, for instance, had a pair of goals and an assist as Dortmund thrashed their opponents 6-2. At the 65-minute mark, the match was still tied, but then the hosts exploded, showing why they're a legitimate challenger to Bayern this season.
Bayern get workman-like win versus Hannover
Hannover rarely enjoy their visits to Munich. Their away record versus Bayern is the footballing equivalent of a trailer park after a tornado. So it was surprising that they kept a clean sheet for the first half. But Mario Mandzukic scored early in the second, and Bayern were on their way to a 2-0 win.
Kiessling brace puts Leverkusen past Wolves
Where would Leverkusen be without striker Stefan Kiessling? Surely not in third place. At home against Wolfsburg, the lanky center forward was again the difference, scoring goals number two and three in a 3-1 win. He also drew the foul that got Wolfsburg's Luiz Gustavo sent off.
Augsburg record historic win over Freiburg
As winning streaks go, three is fairly moderate, but tiny Augsburg had never won a consecutive trio of matches in the German top flight. Until now, that is. Halil Altintop and Tobias Werner scored the goals in a 2-1 victory that put the Oak Tree boys in the top half of the table.
Boateng puts Schalke past Mainz
Matches sometimes come down to one individual moment. Against Mainz, Kevin-Prince Boateng alertly pounced on a bad pass and skillfully bent in the lone goal of the game. The Royal Blues, playing in disconcerting green, will be glad they picked up the Prince last minute from AC Milan.
Frankfurt get easy win over Bremen
A lot of attention has been focused recently on Bremen keeper Sebastian Mielitz, as many fans would like to see the club bring back Tim Wiese. But he was blameless in Werder's 3-0 loss to Frankfurt. Bremen had a man sent off, missed a penalty and generally looked like a relegation candidate. Meanwhile, Frankfurt got their second straight win.
Gentner header gives Stuttgart win in Berlin
If you looked at statistics like possession, challenges won and shots on goal, you'd think Hertha Berlin got a comfortable victory in this one. But as the old saying goes, the only statistic that counts is the score. And a well-placed header by Christian Gentner meant this score of Friday's match was Stuttgart 1 - Hertha 0.
Volland goal gets Hoffenheim past Gladbach
21-year-old Hoffenheim striker Kevin Volland is quickly making a name for himself as one of Germany's top young players. Against Mönchengladbach, he was at it again, slotting the ball home past an outstretched Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It was the game-winner, as Hoffenheim got a 2-1 victory.
Braunschweig, Nuremberg split the points
Home side Eintracht Braunschweig peppered the visitors' goal with shots, but more than one goal refused to fall. Nuremberg got the same tally with far fewer opportunities. The result - Braunschweig get their first season point of the season with 1-all draw but remain rock bottom. Nuremberg are still searching for their first season win.
