Black Friday sale digs hole in the ground

As of writing, on Saturday before dawn (0200 UTC) Cards Against Humanity customers had spent over $60,000 (56,600 euros) to watch a mechanical digger make a giant hole in the ground.

Cards Against Humanity, a card game where the players try to be as offensive as possible, has started another event related to Black Friday, the major US-shopping day of the year. People were able to pay any amount of money they would like to keep digging a hole somewhere in the United States on a live stream.

On the Frequently Asked Questions page regarding the "Holiday Hole," the exact location is given as "America. And in our hearts." The page continues by saying there is no purpose to the hole, and "you're supposed to think it's funny. You might not get it for a while, but some time next year you'll chuckle quietly to yourself and remember all this business about the hole."

And if they go so deep that they hit magma, "at least then we'd feel something." The digging will continue "as long as the money keeps coming in." There was no limit to contributions with two people spending more than $1,000 each, as of writing.

Previous years have seen the card game pull similar stunts. In 2015, more than 11,000 people gave the company at least $5 each, for nothing. It then reported what employees bought with the money. In 2014, the company sold a "Bullshit Box" where people bought actual excrement for $6. The company donated 20 cents from each box sold to Heifer International.
