October 14 marked the 70th anniversary of an uprising at the Sobibor extermination camp in eastern Poland. It was an extraordinary event. Most of the 250,000 Jews who were transported to Sobibor were immediately sent to the gas chamber. But on October 14th, 1943 a group of inmates rose up, killed 11 top SS officers and then staged a daring escape.
