Deadly Egypt bus crash
December 2, 2012Egyptian officials said on Sunday that the accident had occurred on the access road to a resort area some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the resort of Hurghada.
As well as the five German fatalities, two Egyptians were killed in the accident, while a number of tourists needed hospital treatment.
A spokesman for Germany's Foreign Ministry confirmed the German deaths, adding condolences on behalf of German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
“We must unfortunately announce that German nationals are among those who died,” said a spokesman for the ministry. “The Foreign Minister has a deep sense of sympathy for the relatives.”
Fatal accidents are common on roads in Egypt, due largely to bad road conditions and lax enforcement of traffic laws.
