The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that Lamine Diack has resigned as an honorary member of the organization.

Diack, the former president of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF), has been a member since 1999, but has been at the center of corruption allegations that led to him being provisionally suspended by the IOC on Tuesday.

The long-serving custodian of athletics allegedly received more than one million euros ($1.07 million) in bribes in 2011 to cover up positive doping tests of Russian athletes.

This week, French authorities questioned the Senegal native before being released on bail and banned from leaving the country. The 82-year-old resigns with the sport rocked by the report released by WADA on Monday, which recommended the athletics governing body suspends Russia from competition.

Diack was succeeded as president of the IAAF by Sebastian Coe.
