U2 front man and anti-poverty campaigner Bono will meet German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer late Wednesday to discuss aid for Africa, the ministry said. A foreign ministry spokesman confirmed media reports that Fischer, a member of the Greens party and a die-hard U2 fan, would speak with the rocker on the sidelines of a concert by the band in the southern city of Munich. The meeting was initially scheduled for early July but called off after the deadly attacks on the London public transport system. A Group of Eight summit wrapped up last month with the leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States endorsing measures they said would boost annual development aid to poor countries in Africa and elsewhere by $50 billion by 2010.German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder met at the summit with Bono and Bob Geldof, the organizer of the giant Live 8 concerts that put pressure on rich countries to help alleviate African suffering.
