Foxconn to build huge plant in Wisconsin

Taiwanese conglomerate Foxconn - best known for making iPhones in China - would open a new plant in the United States, US President Donald Trump announced.
In a $10-billion (8.5-billion-euro) investment, the company is to build a facility in Wisconsin to make LCD screens, initially creating some 3,000 jobs. The number of positions there could eventually rise to 13,000, Trump said during a meeting with Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou at the White House.
"Thank you for your investment in the American worker," Trump told Gou. "They will not let you down."
'Big day for America'
Foxconn has yet to say which community in Wisconsin will be home to the plant. White House officials said the investment was significant for bringing advanced manufacturing of electronics back to the US after decades of outsourcing.
Trump has touted job creation at home and the revitalization of American manufacturing as a central part of his presidency.
The state of Wisconsin would provide some $3 billion in incentives to the Taiwanese firm, Governor Scott Walker said.
In the US, Foxconn already operates a smaller plant in Pennsylvania. In its iPhone-producing companies in China, the firm employs about 1 million people.
