Visitors to Frankfurt have around 60 museums to choose from. The Museum Embankment, situated on the Main River opposite the old city center, is home to the Städel art museum. With an extensive collection covering 700 years of European art history, the Städel is one of the most important museums of its kind in Germany. The Kunsthalle Schirn, located right in the historic district, is home to temporary exhibitions that display works by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso and Edvard Munch.

Aside from the large museums, art lovers will also find plenty of smaller collections on specific themes, among them the Film Museum, the Jewish Museum and the Caricatura Museum.
