'Game of Thrones' actor Peter Vaughan dies, aged 93

The British actor Peter Vaughan, best known as Maester Aemon Targaryen in the HBO series "Game of Thrones," has died at the age of 93 on Tuesday.

The death of the "Game of Thrones" actor Peter Vaughan was confirmed by his agent, Sally Long-Innes, on Tuesday: "Very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10:30 this morning. He died peacefully with his family around him," she wrote in a statement.

Beyond his role in the famous HBO series from 2011 to 2015, Peter Vaughan was also known in the UK for his role as Grouty in the 1970s sitcom "Porridge."

The actor also featured in different Terry Gilliam films, such as "Time Bandits" and "Brazil." One of his most high-profile roles in a feature film was as the father of Anthony Hopkins in "The Remains of the Day" (1993).
