Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on January 24, the German government announced on Friday.

Merkel will travel to Turkey's largest city to discuss a wide range of topics that are sure to include the conflicts in Libya and across the Middle East, particularly as their meeting will take place just a few days after Sunday's Libya peace talks in Berlin.

Turkish schools hope

Migration issues may well feature prominently on the agenda, in addition to the German government's efforts to work out a possible framework for hosting three Turkish schools in Germany.
