Folk festivals are typically German: More than 233 million visitors flock to the fair grounds every year. They are a celebration of German friendliness and the joy of getting together – with a good portion of customs and tradition. There are beer tents, snack bars, rides, music and dancing. In some regions traditional costumes are worn, like the Dirndl dresses and Lederhosen breeches in Bavaria. Each region has its own folk festivals, some of which are of religious origin, while others celebrate a new season or regional specialties such as beer or wine.
