How can you avoid athlete’s foot?

Athlete’s foot, which is a fungal infection of the skin, is more likely to arise when skin is irritated or injured.

The fungus that causes athlete’s foot is most likely to take hold when you wear tight, ill-fitting shoes. To help prevent athlete’s foot, make sure that your shoes are comfortable and offer enough toe room. Moisture can also promote athlete’s foot. Shoes and socks made of synthetic material increase sweating and dampness. Leather shoes and cotton socks are better options – and make sure that shoes worn for sports dry out well between use. After bathing or showering, dry your feet well. And if you’re prone to athlete’s foot, it’s also a good idea to wash towels and bath mats in hot water – over 65 degrees Celsius.
