Leipzig's annual Book Fair opens this evening -- with a prize ceremony honoring Dutch author Geert Mak for his contribution to European understanding. He's just one of hundreds of writers travelling to Leipzig, which stages Europe's biggest reading as a sideshow to the commercial exhibition. The fair itself includes more publishers than ever before -- once overshadowed by its famous big brother in Frankfurt, it now poses some serious competition.
