In Kyrgyzstan, government troops shoot into crowds of protestors - the opposition says at least a hundred people are dead

Kyrgyzstan has declared a state of emergency after violent clashes between police and anti-government protestors. At least 17 people are reported dead -- but the opposition says as many as 100 may have lost their lives. Earlier reports that the Interior Minister was among the dead have not been confirmed. The violence erupted as thousands of protestors gathered at the presidential offices in the capital Bishkek. They're demanding the resignation of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, accusing him of rights violations, corruption and economic mismanagement. The clashes follow weeks of political unrest and have been further fuelled by the arrests of leading opposition politicians.
