Kim & Trump: A big deal?

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump shook hands for the first time in Singapore on Tuesday. The two men went on to sign a declaration committing themselves to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. But just how committed are they really? Sascha Hach is an expert on disarmament from ICAN, the nobelprize winning organization for the abolishment of nucleas weapons. He says: "Trump's and Kim's deal is cursory. In order to succeed, the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula has to be embedded in international law and other actors need to be involved."

Matthew Karnitschnig is chief Europe-correspondent of the US-magazine „Politico“. He says: “It may be hard for many people to accept, but Trump was right. Just getting the North Koreans to the table to seriously talk peace is an impressive outcome.”
