Lufthansa pilots have called off a strike scheduled for Tuesday that would have affected long-haul flights operating out of Frankfurt, the pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit said late Monday.

The pilots had planned to walk off the job for the fourth time in three weeks to oppose a new early retirement scheme proposed by the airline, but cited progress in negotiations as the reason for cancelling the strike.

The Vereinigung Cockpit union said it had received a "revised catalogue of demands" from Lufthansa and that it would schedule a new round of talks for this week.

Earlier, Lufthansa announced that the strike would not lead to any flight cancellations, as the airline had found enough volunteers to replace the striking pilots.
