Hoffenheim head coach Markus Gisdol has extended his contract with the club by two years through 2018.

"I am very pleased that Markus will stay with us," said the club's Managing Director Peter Rettig.

Gisdol, 47, has been with the Sinsheim-based club since 2013, signing a three-year deal until 2016 on arrival. He will become only the third manager in the club's history to stay in the head coach job for at least five years.

"I am very comfortable here with a great team of staff and a great boss," said Gisdol at his press conference in which the announcement was made. "We have progressed a long way in the last two years and I want to continue with my team."

Hoffenheim currently sit 7th in the Bundesliga table, three points behind Augsburg in what could be the final qualifying spot for the Europa League.
