Matchday three in pictures
Ingolstadt almost crashed Bayern Munich's Oktoberfest party, Borussia Dortmund's young star kept on shining and some of the league's most consistent strikers failed to find the goal.
Crashing the Oktoberfest festivities
Bayern Munich may have finished the matchday with all three points but that wasn't before Saturday's visitors, Ingolstadt, gave them a bloody nose. To the surprise of the Allianz Arena crowd Dario Lezcano pegged Manuel Neuer to push his side in to the lead just eight minutes in to the game.
Dinosaurs looking their age
In a match that looked destined to end in a draw, a moment of madness from experience Hamburg goalkeeper Rene Adler in the 66th minute offered RB Leipzig a penalty and thus an opening goal. The home side then imploded and conceded another three before full time.
The young star shines brighter
One day ahead of his 18th birthday, Borussia Dortmund prodigy Christian Pulisic again stole the headlines with a stellar performance against Darmstadt. Two assists and a goal went a long way to proving that the kid from Pennsylvania is more than comfortable at this level.
Foals at full speed
Passionate coach Andre Schubert would have undoubtedly demanded a big performance from his Borussia Mönchengladbach side after losing to Manchester City 4-0 in the Champions League earlier in the week. And that's exactly what he got. With two goals from Thorgan Hazard and two from Raffael making short work of Werder Bremen.
A chance at redemption
Bayer Leverkusen's season hasn't gone according to plan. But late on in Saturday's clash with Eintracht Frankfurt star striker Javier Hernandez had an opportunity to score from the penalty spot and rescue a point. Alas, it wasn't to be and the Mexican goalscorer hit the right post. A good chance wasted.
Still no luck for the returning goalscorer
Wolfsburg did almost everything right against Hoffenheim on Saturday. They kept a clean sheet, they dominated the midfield passing and they created chances. The only thing they couldn't do was score, despite numerous, easy chances for new striker Mario Gomez. The man with 138 Bundesliga goals to his name will have to try again next week.
Cologne in Champions League form
Friday night's 3-0 win over Freiburg now means that Cologne have scored five goals without conceding a single one in their opening three Bundesliga games. Not only that, but the Billy Goats have also picked up seven points along the way and go in to matchday four ahead of the likes of Dortmund, Leverkusen and Gladbach. Are they the new top-four contenders?
The first casualty of the season
While Gladbach were dazzling fans and neutrals alike with their attractive, attacking football Werder Bremen coach Viktor Skripnik was preparing for the worst. With three defeats and just two goals to 12 conceded, even he knew his time had come. Indeed, the next morning the club confirmed they had parted ways with the coach. The Bundesliga has its first casualty of the season.
Mainz make it count in Augsburg
After throwing away two wins in their last two games, Mainz finally made sure of the three points in Augsburg. After Kostas Stafylidis canceled out Jhon Cordoba's opener, it looked like the game would end in a draw. But late goals from Yunus Malli and Yoshinori Muto gave Mainz the win on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Going from strength to strength
Hertha continued an impressive 100 percent run on Sunday evening with a 2-0 win over Schalke in Berlin. Yet all three points were almost entirely down to the magic of Mitchell Weiser. The right winger scored the first and assisted the second to keep the capital side second only to Bayern in the Bundesliga table.
