#Ten years after the international community agreed on the Global Millenium Goals, world leaders are meeting in New York to assess what has been achieved. At the turn of the century, a UN summit pledged to halve poverty and hunger by 2015. It set out a number of ambitious targets to achieve this. Some significant gains have been made since then. But there is still a long way to go. The UN acknowledges that the financial crisis has increased inequality and vulnerability in the world. Leaders gathering for the 3 day UN Summit are expected to stress the importance of the Millenium Goals of 2000 and to look for news ways of achieving them.
