A week of Nobel Prize announcements has kicked off with the award for medicine. This year's prize goes to two scientists who helped lay the groundwork for mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has previously celebrated such breakthroughs as the discoveries of DNA, insulin and penicillin.
