Opel: Concern mounts in Germany over General Motors' failure to pick a buyer for its Opel unit

The German government has called for a new round of talks with representatives of the US auto giant General Motors, as the company continues to put off a decision on the fate of its European arm Opel. Executives are considering two bids - one from a Canadian parts supplier and the other from a US-Belgian investment group. Nearly half of Opel's 55-thousand strong workforce is based in Germany - and with elections coming up, politicians here are looking to secure those jobs as quickly as possible.
