Paderborn sack head coach Effenberg
March 3, 2016SC Paderborn, who were relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of last season, announced they had fired 47-year-old Effenberg in a statement released after the club's scoreless draw at Karlsruhe on Wednesday night. Further details are expected to be announced at a press conference later on Thursday.
Wednesday's draw left Paderborn without a win in 12 games and in second-last place in the Bundesliga's second division, meaning the club is in danger of being relegated for a second year running.
Effenberg had taken over at Paderborn just last October and got off to a promising start, with the club winning its first two games. However, things on the field went downhill from there.
Off-field issues also didn't help, with news emerging last week that Effenberg had taken the job despite not having completed his coaching qualifications. After that news broke, the former Bayern Munich star pledged to take the necessary seminars to complete his badges in the near future.
