Kay HagedornApril 29, 2008

Welcome back. Greek Prime-Minister Kostas Karamanlis and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to sign a deal on Greek participation in a major gas pipeline project on Tuesday. The South Stream pipeline is being built by Russian gas giant Gazprom and Italian energy company ENI. It will pass through the Black Sea, from Russia to Bulgaria, and when completed, it will eventually transport 30-Billion cubic metres of Russian gas a year to Europe. The project is seen as a competitor to the EU and US-backed Nabucco pipeline.
