Well the resignation of Horst Köhler on Monday took Germany by surprise - and immediately put pressure on the government to move quickly to find a replacement. The governing coalition of the conservatives and business-oriented Free Democrats already has a lot on its plate - above all, the economic crisis and its consequences for Germany and Europe. Many voters are unhappy with the way the new government has dealt with these challenges - making it even more important not to let the resignation of Köhler turn into another crisis.
