Rudi Dutschke, the most famous leader of Germany's student protest movement, was shot in the head by Josef Bachmann on 11th April, 1968. Dutschke survived the assassination attempt, but he died of the resulting injuries 11 years later. The attack happened at the height of the student protests directed against Germany's political establishment and right-wing press. We take a look at the life and legacy of Rudi Dutschke.
