Sarkozy and Merkel reach compromise on french proposal for a Union of Mediterranean states - je 04.03.2008 08

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have reached a compromise on a French proposal for a Union of Mediterranean states. Berlin had criticised Paris for going it alone with the project. But Sarkozy has now agreed to involve all EU member states. The announcement came after the two leaders met at the opening of the CeBIT telecommunications trade fair in Hannover.
