The physical abilities of German schoolchildren have been dwindling for a long time. Some experts even predict such children will have shorter lifespans. But no one feels responsible. Parents often don't know how important exercise is; teachers feel they already have too many tasks; and politics is inflexible. Sports researchers have long called for daily physical education. But state culture ministries oppose changing the curriculum.
