Visit Munich

DW-TVSeptember 17, 2012

Whether you're a local or a visitor, summer in Munich is all about the beer gardens. The 200 year-old tradition is as typically Bavarian as 'Weisswurst' and 'Lederhosen' are.

The very best spot to look down on Munich is from the top of the "Frauenkirche" Church. Visitors from around the world gather on the Marienplatz square, enticed by the sound of the glockenspiel coming from the neo-gothic town hall. For science and technology fans, the German Museum is not to be missed. It's the biggest of its kind in the world. Nymphenburg Palace, where Bavaria's legendary king, Ludwig II was born in 1845 is another must-see.

At the height of the beer garden season the place to be is outdoors. Tourists, business people and locals in traditional garb relax on park benches sipping beer. As autumn approaches there's even more to look forward to. The biggest folk festival in the world takes place on the Theresienwiese during Oktoberfest!
