Nikki Haley drops out of race

Nikki Haley is set to drop out of the race for the Republican nomination, multiple US media sources reported on Wednesday.

Her departure, which comes after she only won a single state during the Super Tuesday votes, will leave former President Donald Trump as the sole remaining candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.

Haley had refused to withdraw earlier despite polls showing a huge lead for Trump.

Donald Trump has won the Republican presidential caucus in Alaska according to the Associated Press.

With over 10,400 votes counted, Trump had over 87% of the vote, while Republican rival Nikki Haley had garnered 12%.

Alaska was the final state taking part in Super Tuesday to announce its results.

While neither Trump nor President Joe Biden have yet secured enough delegates to technically guarantee their candidacy for the November election, there is now little chance of another candidate being picked.

Biden claims Trump is "determined to destroy our democracy"

President Joe Biden has claimed his predecessor, Donald Trump, is "determined to destroy our democracy" following a successful showing during 'Super Tuesday' for the pair.

Biden didn't give a speech but instead issued a statement warning Americans had a choice between moving forward or returning to the "darkness that defined" Trump's period in office.

"Four years ago, I ran because of the existential threat Donald Trump posed to the America we all believe in," he said in a statement after his nomination wins in the Democratic primaries.

"He is driven by grievance and grift, focused on his own revenge and retribution, not the American people. He is determined to destroy our democracy," Biden said of the man who looks sure to be his opponent in the general election in November.

"This is our fight. Together, we will win," he added to his supporters.

Super Tuesday an 'amazing night' Trump says

Donald Trump celebrated his Republican primary victories, describing the results as "an amazing night."

"They call it 'Super Tuesday' for a reason," the former president told supporters gathered at his Florida estate.

He claims the pundits have told him there's "never been anything so conclusive," and he plans to inspire a turnaround of the country.

Trump went on to attack Biden over the US-Mexico border, saying it was lawless and dangerous.

"In some ways, we're a third-world country at our borders," he said.

Immigration and the economy are leading concerns for voters in both parties.

Nikki Haley won the Republican primary in Vermont, according to The Associated Press.

That victory will do little to dent Trump's primary dominance, however.

The Republican Party is more moderate in Vermont than in other states and Republican governor, Phil Scott, has endorsed Haley.

President Joe Biden will win the Democratic presidential primary in the state according to the Associated Press.

Opinion polls show Trump beating Biden by four percentage points in the state in November. With immigration a major ballot issue, Trump and Biden appeared in dueling visits to the US-Mexico border in Texas last week.

Meanwhile, Senator Ted Cruz has clinched his party's nomination for a third term. His last re-election campaign ended in a narrow win over Democrat Beto O'Rourke.

Trump projected to win Colorado

Former President Donald Trump will win the Colorado Republican primary, the Associated Press projects.

Trump was only allowed to run in the State's Republican presidential primary on Monday when the US Supreme Court unanimously overturned a decision to exclude him.

Trump was previously excluded from the ballot under a constitutional provision involving insurrection for inciting the January 6 Capitol attack in 2021.

But the justices ruled that states cannot invoke a post-Civil War constitutional provision to prevent presidential candidates from appearing on ballots. The court said this power resided with the US Congress.

President Joe Biden also got the Democratic nod in Colorado.
