Some U.S. teens are having plastic surgery to look better in selfies. Selfies may be a manifestation of a narcissistic generation – but they’re also an expression of their insecurity in a world obsessed with beauty.

Selfies have become part of the most important content on social media. Likes, followers and hashtags are the currency of digital natives. The “selfie” hashtag has been used on Instagram more than 268 million times. And every day, more are added. A study by Pew Research Center found that 55 percent of U.S. teens have posted selfies online.
