Cologne has food technology, Berlin aerospace and consumer electronics, Hanover offers information technology, Freiburg solar energy and Hamburg wind energy.

The biannual Berlin Air Show (ILA) is the "international full-line aerospace trade show and pan-European marketing platform that provides direct access to all European markets." Some 1014 exhibitors from 42 countries and 250,000 visitors took part in 2006.

Next dates: May 27 to June 1, 2008

Anuga Food Tec fair in Cologne takes place every three years and is an international trade fair for food and drink technology. About 1,178 exhibitors from 144 countries attend, as do 39,000 visitors.

Next dates: March 10 to March 13, 2009

CeBIT in Hanover calls itself "the world's leading event for information technology, telecommunications, software and services." About 6,100 exhibitors from 77 countries and 480,000 visitors attend the event that also has spin-offs in Shanghai, Sydney, Istanbul and San Diego.

Next dates: March 4 to March 9, 2008

The Hannover Messe presents 10 specialist international trade fairs, ranging from production and building automation to power generation to pipeline technology and microsystems technology. About 6,400 exibitors from 68 countries took part, as did some 240,000 visitors.

Berlin's IFA is the world's largest consumer electronics trade fair with over 1,049 exhibitors from some 32 countries and 212,500 visitors, who participated in 2006.

Solar energy businesses meet in FreiburgImage: Q-Cells

Intersolar in Freiburg is an international trade fair and conference for solar technology and calls itself the leading trade fair in Europe. Some 560 exhibitors from 60 dozen countries and 26,000 visitors participated in 2007. Due to space issues, next years fair will take place in Munich.

Next dates: June 12 to June 14, 2008

The WindEnergy international trade fair in Hamburg is the "international communication platform for wind turbine manufacturers, equipment suppliers, service companies and trade visitors from all over the world." The fair, held for the third time in 2006, attracted some 10,000 visitors. More than 330 exhibitors from 26 countries participated.
