Telekom Affair: Snoops and Spies in German Industry - People and Poltics 05.06.2008

Following the scandals involving LIDL, ALDI and other supermarkets spying on their employees, Deutsche Telekom has now revealed that it placed senior staff and journalists under surveillance for years. The response among politicians is mixed. While some say that existing legislation goes far enough, others are calling for those guilty of spying to be punished more severely. As the corporate world remains the biggest customer for the association of German detectives, a new debate has been triggered on data privacy as well as freedom of information.
