The deadline passes for bids to take over G-M European car unit Opel

Who will take the wheel at General Motor's European unit, Opel? The German government is about to have its say. Would-be buyers had until today to submit their plans for reviving the cash-strapped company. There are three known contenders for Opel. The Italian automaker, Fiat, the auto parts maker, Magna and the US investment fund, Riddlewood. We have more on what Berlin plans to do now that the bids are in.
