The Sri Lankan President declares the country 'liberated' from Tamil Tiger rebels and vows to end ethnic and religious divisions

Sri Lanka's President has officially announced the end of the 26-year civil war against the Tamil Tiger rebels - saying he is proud to have been able to liberate the country from terrorism. But there's still confusion over the fate of the rebel leader Velupillai Prabha-karan - the military says it is confident he was killed in the final battle and have identified his body, but rebel forces insist their leader is alive and safe. +++SYN-MAZ+++
