July 24, 2009

Mozart was a prolific classical composer who wrote more than 600 works during his short life. Now more of his works have been discovered by the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg.

The Foundation said its Department of Research had identified two works in its possession as compositions written for the piano early in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's career. The Foundation will reveal more about the works at a press conference on August 2.

The International Mozarteum Foundation was founded in 1800 and is a non-profit organization focusing on the life and work of the composer. It holds concerts, maintains museums and promotes research into Mozart's life and work.

Several Mozart compositions have resurfaced in recent years. Last year a library in Nantes, in western France, had a musical score by Mozart, that had been donated by a private collector at the end of the 19th century, authenticated by the Mozarteum.

In May last year, experts also identified three musical scores discovered at Poland's historic Jasna Gora Roman Catholic monastery as possible Mozart creations.
