US President Barack Obama tells Congress its time to end the bickering and move ahead with healthcare reform

Michael BärSeptember 10, 2009

In a rare speech to both houses of the US Congress on Wednesday night, US President Barack Obama tried to revive health care reform and his own political fortunes. Will polls showing sharply lower approval ratings, the President tried to lay to rest some of the fears and rumors that opponents have been playing up. In a rare breach of protocoll, one Republican congressman loudly accused Obama of lying when the president insisted he had no intention of providing insurance to illegal immigrants. The reform process now moves into its final phase, and while Obama indicated he does see room for compromise, experts say it will be a tough battle to get even a watered down plan in place. +++ SYN
