Boared? Go shopping.

January 26, 2010

The extreme cold snap in Germany has had some very unusual consequences. On Tuesday, it sent a wild boar off to a shopping mall on a desperate, and deadly, hunt for food.

The ongoing frigid temperatures in Germany claimed an unlikely victim near the northern city of Rostock.

A wild boar desperate for food - and apparently not in possession of cash or a credit card - found its way into a shopping center. There it ran amok, terrorizing customers and slightly injuring a 12-year-old girl on the leg.

The store owner set off an emergency alarm, and police raced to the scene. The tusked beast was eventually corralled into a room away from the customers and goods on the sales floor.

A store worker later shot the animal dead.

Officials then searched the area for more boar that might have followed thier noses to trash bins - or the food court - at the shopping center, but none were found.
