Will Georgia's foreign agent law endanger its EU candidacy?

Thousands of protestors took to the streets outside Georgia's parliament in Tbilisi as lawmakers passed a controversial foreign agent law in its thrid and final reading.

The law requires any media company or NGO that gets 20% or more of its funding from abroad to register as "pursuing the interests of a foreign power." Critics fear that the bill is similar to legislation in Russia that they say was used to crack down on freedom of speech.

Many demonstrators in Tbilisi also waved the European Union flag to emphasize their concern that the law could jeopardize Georgia's potential EU membership and push the country closer to Russia.
