Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel (CDU), die sich zur Zeit in der Mongolei aufhaelt, bescheinigte dem Land weitreichende Entwicklungen. Sie werde ihren Besuch auch dazu nutzen, "um zu sagen: Wir moechten, dass alle Menschen in der Mongolei auch am Wohlstand teilhaben", sagte Merkel mit Blick auf die reichen Rohstoffvorkommen in dem Land, neben Gold und Kupfer vor allem die Metalle der Seltenen Erden. Aus Regierungskreisen verlautete dazu, dass die Chancen zur Unterzeichnung eines Rohstoffabkommens sehr gut stuenden. Merkel sprach von einer "Win-Win-Situation, also Gewinn fuer beide Seiten, indem wir wissenschaftlich-technisch zusammenarbeiten und auf der anderen Seite eben auch im Bereich der Rohstoffe". Seltene Erden werde immer teurer. Derweil belasten die stark gestiegenen Preise fuer Seltene Erden einer Studie zufolge die Profitabilitaet der Unternehmen oder gefaehrden gar deren Existenz. Das Marktvolumen werde durch die steigenden Preise in diesem Jahr voraussichtlich auf 27 Milliarden Euro ansteigen, nachdem es vor drei Jahren nur 2,4 Milliarden Euro betragen habe, heisst es in der Studie der Firma Roland Berger, die am Sonntag (09.10.11) veroeffentlicht wurde.
